The first few weeks of learning weren’t completely ideal, but a great effort was made to keep the kids on track. Other area schools took 3-4 weeks to implement online learning. When schools suddenly shut down for Covid, Calibre had an action plan that quickly had our kids distance learning. Students wear uniforms, however, they are still able to wear jeans and shoes of their choosing. It isn’t brand new, but it is kept in good repair. Calibre hosts student concerts, carnival type festivals, 8th grade graduation trips, and a cultural feast. Pre Covid, my child enjoyed after school band and guitar orchestra. There are several extracurricular activities offered at a reasonable price to participate. They foster good communication between the school and the parents. There have been a few issues that I have addressed with the principle, and I felt that my concerns were taken seriously and addre ssed. We could immediately feel that Calibre was a much more positive place. Everyone we encountered was smiling and happy. Calibre was completely different from the other school. We did some research and decided to give Calibre a try. Our family originally attended another school when we first moved here. I’m happy that we chose Calibre and would highly recommend them. The middle school teachers do a wonderful job of encouraging the students at that level while also not coddling them so they learn to be accountable which helps prepare them for high-school. My middle child struggled with reading and the RTI staff did a wonderful job of not only aiding him in his reading progress but also making a personal connection so that he feels comfortable with them and for a kid who can be a bit awkward, that’s been a beautiful thing to see. I know she will be well cared for and get a top notch public education at the same time. My youngest child has a host of medical issues and honestly Calibre staff have made me feel so much more at ease with the decision to send her in person. When my children enter school I do not feel as though I have sent them off to b e looked after by strangers, I feel a sense of safety knowing that I send them somewhere teachers and staff look after them and educate them as if they were their own children. Despite the challenges that Arizona faced as a whole and the pandemic I have found Calibre to be a welcoming school where the staff take an active interest in my children’s academic progress and overall well being. I found Calibre, enrolled and he’s now entering 8th grade with siblings entering 5th and 1st. When my son was entering Kinder I had concerns about our local school district so I opted to explore charters. They are in uniforms but they can wear jeans & any leggings under their skirts if they would like so there are still ways for kids to express themselves even in uniforms. They also offer after school extracurricular activities, like sports & choir. We have rarely had any issues with teacher communication, most respond to emails the same day depending on the time. On top of that, they do many projects which foster creativity every year. They also started pro ject based learning a few years ago, which means the students give 3-4 presentations on different subjects every year, so, on top of the learning from doing the projects themselves, by the time they go to high school public speaking won’t be an issue. They also offer a full range of specials, like music, PE, technology, & multiple different art classes. They have free tutoring for students in need before school & smaller group learning for certain subjects during the school day. We originally started there for the full day kindergarten but there are many other things this school offers. We have one son who has already graduated from Calibre & a daughter who has gone there since kinder & is going into 6th grade this year.
